Each Japanese fabric has its own meaning!

The turtle shell pattern is believed to be associated with longevity, good health, and protection against evil because it protects the body as firmly as a turtle shell.

This is a technique in which fabrics are dyed by binding them with threads or sandwiched with a device to prevent dyeing and then dyed with dyestuffs to create complex patterns.

Schedule: Day 1

Draw Hexagons on graph paper,
trace hexagons to fabric
Iron lines by hands
Fold lines and clip sides
Temporary Stitch
Attach ate-nuno

Day 2

Attach ate-nuno
Dye
Wash
Untie
Wash

Materials needed:

graph paper
Blank Pattern Paper
compass
Ruler, pencils, Sharpie and eraser
Washable/Disappearing pen
Clips
Ate-nuno
Needles, thread, yubinuki
Apron
Gloves (bring 2-3 pair)

The Sukumo vat is being made for a specific quantity of fabric- Because of this there is a limit of 6 students
