BINDINGS & TECHNIQUES FOR ARTIST’S BOOKS with Claudia Lee
BINDINGS & TECHNIQUES FOR ARTIST’S BOOKS
What is an artist’s book? It is often defined as a work of
art in a book format. Artist’s books are often made in
limited editions or can be a one-off. They are flat or
sculptural. Sometimes they have content and text,
sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they are made from
traditional materials and sometimes from very
surprising materials. There is lots of room for creativity
within this genre but, best of all, you can make it whatever
you wish.
In this week-long intensive, students will learn more than
a dozen bindings. They will explore ways to alter and
expand on basic ideas to create original artist’s books
using a range of papers, making their book cloth,
incorporating color and content, using unusual materials,
altering scale, and combining bindings within one book.
This is a class for anyone who would like to explore the
possibilities of artist’s books in either a serious or playful way
and discover how it can be something more in the hands of an artist.
If you have no experience in bookbinding or if you have
been making books for a while, this workshop is for you.
Each student will work at their own speed and comfort level.
No pressure, just fun creating and sharing ideas.
