Mixed Media Encaustic: Mono-Printing, Work on Paper and the Book with Lorraine Glessner
This workshop explores the immediacy and process-diverse technique of encaustic mono--
printing. Through journaling, personal mapping, and expressive mark-making exercises, we will
access layers of memory, dreams, and personal narratives, inspiring us to develop
ideas and areas of focus for series-based work on paper. Participants will experiment with a
variety of innovative processes and materials such as encaustic mono-printing, suminagashi,
powdered graphite/charcoal, graphite bars, pyrography, and stitch. The conceptual use of
translucency and layers is further explored through simple, yet versatile, book bindings to create
unique personal journals through the alternative book form. All encaustic supplies are included,
however, you might like to bring your own collage materials and/or some of the optional supplies
for more personal expression.
