💙 Intro to Shibori and Indigo with Suzanne Connors

A one-day immersion into the beauty, rhythm, and magic of Japanese indigo dyeing

Step into the timeless art of shibori, the Japanese technique of folding, binding, and stitching cloth to create intricate resist patterns. In this one-day hands-on workshop, you’ll learn traditional methods of shaping fabric, then experience the alchemy of indigo dyeing — watching cloth transform from green to blue in the vat before your eyes.

Led by Suzanne Connors, founder of Aya Fiber Studio, this workshop introduces both the history and contemporary artistry of shibori while inviting you to slow down, observe, and enjoy the meditative rhythm of process and pattern.

Each participant will create a series of samplers and one finished piece, exploring multiple binding and resist methods suitable for cotton, linen, or silk.

What You’ll Learn
• Folding, binding, and stitching techniques for shibori resists- different technique each workshop
• Preparing and dyeing cloth with natural indigo vats
• Understanding color, oxidation, and layering
• How to create your own indigo vat at home

Studio Environment
Work in Aya’s spacious, light-filled coastal studio in Stuart, Florida — with no more than two artists per 4′×8′ table, and full access to indigo vats, dye equipment, power, and USB.
Enjoy morning coffee, tea, and pastries, personalized lunch pickups from local cafés, and relaxed creative flow in a supportive environment.
