A three-day creative retreat exploring transparency, layering, and architectural composition

Join fiber artist Valerie Goodwin for an inspiring three-day workshop that merges fiber, design, and light. Using transparent and semi-transparent materials, you’ll explore how layering, texture, and stitch can transform fabric into luminous, architectural compositions that seem to breathe with light.

Through hands-on demonstrations and guided exercises, Valerie will share her signature techniques for constructing intricate collages that combine fabric, thread, and mixed-media materials. You’ll learn how to balance structure and spontaneity while developing your own visual language of pattern and translucency.

Workshop Flow

Day 1 – Inspiration & Foundation
Explore composition and transparency using simple shapes and materials. Create design studies that focus on light, line, and movement.

Day 2 – Layering & Construction
Experiment with layering fabrics, tulle, paper, and stitch. Incorporate mixed-media accents to add depth and complexity to your collage.

Day 3 – Refinement & Finishing
Add final stitching, details, and surface embellishment. End the day with a supportive group share and discussion on how to continue developing your work.

Studio Environment
Create in Aya’s spacious, light-filled fiber art studio in Stuart, Florida — a space designed for focus and creative flow. Each participant enjoys ample workspace (never more than two per 4′×8′ table) with power, USB access, and full use of studio tools.

Enjoy fresh morning coffee, tea, and pastries, personalized lunch pickups from favorite local cafés, and the relaxed rhythm of a supportive creative community.
