SELECTIVE DEGUMMING ON RAW SILK
Discover the texture, shimmer, and alchemy of silk in transformation.

Selective degumming removes one of silk’s natural proteins — creating soft, sheer, and opaque areas within the same cloth. When paired with shibori resist techniques, the result is extraordinary: silk fabrics that ripple with both visual and tactile dimension.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll spend the morning folding, binding, and stitching raw silk organza, exploring how shibori patterning interacts with light and texture. After lunch, your pieces will be processed to remove the sericin protein and then over-dyed in indigo or acid dyes, revealing complex layers of color and sheen.

You’ll work on several sample pieces and finish with a beautiful silk organza scarf, ready to wear or frame. All materials are provided, and additional scarves or yardage will be available for purchase.

Experience the difference between silk’s structure and its softness — and learn how selective degumming can transform your textile practice.
