Layered Cloth: Intuitive Monoprint & Stitch
Description - Participants will learn how to make abstract, muti layered mono-prints on cloth without the use of stencils or stamps.
Participants will be inspired by the spontaneous and intuitive mono-prints as they are being created. Each piece will be allowed to quickly dry then returned to the painted substrate to add more layers of imagery.
The workshop will be structured to work with 10 - 20 pieces of white cloth, alternating between pieces as each layer of paint dries. I will demonstrate a simple way to register the cloth on the plate to easily print multiple layers.
A few collage elements (cut from one of the printed pieces) will be added to the ‘finished’ print.
Simple hand stitching such as running stitch, back stitch and French knots will be used as a final element to the piece. Participants will be encouraged to think of hand stitching as a design and drawing tool rather than a decorative one.
Participants will come away from the workshop with the techniques, information and tools to create one-of-a-kind, original, abstract, fiber art pieces that will reflect their own artistic personality and visual voice.
