Yardage to Runway with Karen Rose
If you like unique clothing and want to create exciting garments you will value and benefit from this workshop. You will create some of the most beautiful and unique fabrics, scarves, and possibly garments you’ve ever seen. Karen will teach her fascinating proprietary “Folded Roses” technique—a method she has carefully developed and refined over time. This approach offers a fast, satisfying way to produce multiple yards of stunning, one-of-a-kind fabric with ease.
Using her pleating technique combined with fiber reactive dyes, you can create distinctive patterns on silk, viscose, and nylon. This versatile process allows for a wide range of design possibilities (see samples below).
You’ll be provided with silk to get started, and you are welcome to bring additional silk yardage or scarves. Additional silk will also be available for purchase.
Once your custom fabrics are complete, Karen will demonstrate several simple and elegant garment-making options, showing you how to transform your hand-dyed yardage into wearable art. A small amount of hand sewing will be required, and you are welcome to use or adapt provided patterns.
Day1- Learn, explore and practice the Folded Roses Technique. Using a folding and pleating process, Karen has created, to seek different pattern and create unique designs. You will be amazed how fast you can create fabulous designs on multiple yards. A deeply satisfying way to create yardage ready to create a new garment or possibly enhance existing garments..
Day 2- Try a completely different way of using this technique to provide another design. Create all the yardage you want. Keep good notes or pics, on what you did to create each piece. Suttle changes will create such different pieces.
Day 3. The flip front top. Karen will show how to take 2 scare scarves and create a fun top that is quick and easy. No need to bring a sewing machine unless you would like to. We will use the scarves rolled edges to make an easy hand stitched seam.
Day 4 -Karen will share some of her favorite easy clothing designs. She will guide you through copying the designs. Continue to create beautiful yardage as you choose.
Day 5 – Share your designs with the class. Describe what you did to create your pieces. Learn from others how they crated their designs.
